No one has more optimism or glee about seeing the mailman in our neighborhood than ACE. More than 2 years ago now, the very dog centric mailman (now retired) ALWAYS carrier dog biscuits with him and generously distributed them to all the dogs in the hood! And if you where lucky enough be on your walk when he came into view he would gladly stop and dispense special delivery treats to all attentive and anguishly waiting canines. He was a very sweet man and also had serviced in the military. He took special care to make sure he performed his job very well, but also made the extra effort to make a lot of dogs very happy. One time Gina and I came upon the parked mail truck on our walk and startled the mailman as he was sorting some mail and Gina let out a big hello bark, “May I have my cookie, please!” He gladly stopped for a brief moment and gave her her cookie and she laid down in the grass to leisurely have her own little picnic. The transition to mail with no cookies, has been very hard for ACE. As I said earlier, our special mailman hasn’t been in the area to delivery cookies for 2 years, but this does not prevent ACE from being filled with HOPE and every time he sees a mail truck that this time could be the right time. But alas time after time, we try to get our mother as close as possible to the truck and she is constantly saying, “No, No that’s not the mailman with the cookies”, but ACE won’t give up his quest! Everyday he is hopeful again that this could be the day! This will be the day that he gets his cookie and even as the new mailman (still a nice man but no cookies) drives away ACE will linger just a little bit longer just encase the mailman changed his mind or suddenly realized that he forgot to stop for ACE and give him his special delivery cookie!
