The “Caesar Tree”
We visited the Caesar Tree to see how much it has grown since our last visit. It is doing quite well. It is a Little Gem Magnolia and actually had 2 blooms on it. The first we can remember seeing. We lost our dear sweet Caesar in 2008 and when we could start breathing without crying, we knew we needed to do something to make sure Caesar was never forgotten. So we decided to plant a tree in his memory in one of his favorite spots. We chose the Little Gem Magnolia because it is a beautiful tree and we had wanted to plant one in our own yard, but didn’t get around to doing it.
Shortly after the tree was planted, we made a trip to visit it and make sure it was doing well. At that time we had Rutledge (Caesar’s litter mate), ACE and Gina with us. ACE & Gina were still little puppies. We saw the tree and stopped the car. Dan & I got out briefly by ourselves, with tears in our eyes, went over to the tree and made sure that it was OK and that we could see the little sign with Caesar’s name. Everything was in place and going well. We stood there for a moment and peacefully reflected about our wonderful boy and how much we missed him. With that, we returned to the car and drove a short distance away and got everyone out of the car for a little walk.
We started our usual walk in the regular direction for this area, but Rutledge kept making us go the way he wanted us to go. And since we where quite used to giving Rutledge his way, we all followed dutifully. Before we knew it, we were hell bent on our way back to the Caesar Tree. Once we arrived Rutledge, without having stopped anywhere else along the way, went right up to the Caesar Tree. Smelled it and proceeded to Tinkle right on the tree! When he finished we where astounded. After this action, he simply marched us all back to the car. He was done with our walk and ready to leave, but he wasn’t going to go anywhere without officially visiting the Tree himself! It seemed as if he also needed to make a tribute to his brother.
We lost our dear boy, Rutledge, almost a year ago now. It still breaks our hearts and we miss the both of them so much. Rutledge always did thinks his own way and Caesar LOVED just being Caesar. We know they are having fun together in heaven at the “Rainbow Bridge”.
Can you guess where the Caesar Tree is?
